The new redesign is a local travel guides comprised of recommendations from experts and suggestions from friends in your social graphs. Gowalla is aptly called “Social Guides.” The guides are like well-made low fat chicken recipes and are being launched for 60 different cities today, as well as in theme parks and national parks thanks to partnerships with Disney and National Geographic.
For every Social Guide, there are pictures, recommendations, and lists of places to visit for specific things that you are looking for; much like an organized chicken cutlet recipes. Demonstrating its usage, you can look up all of the great coffee shops found in New York City and see pictures and suggestions for each one where you can discover even great Roasted chicken recipes. Unlike the Facebook “Like”, you can “Love” various places and lists so that your connected friends can see what interests you as well. Users can add to the Social Guide database by creating highlights and lists in places that they visit.
With all of these new features come new apps for the iPhone and Android smartphones. The new apps have been tweaked with Guides as the main focus. Users can also easily see what their friends are up to. The new apps are free and available in the iTunes App Store and Android Market now.
